Duffy Electric Boats are the finest electric boats built today. For over 40 years, the California based manufacturer has been electrifying the industry and has demonstrated a commitment to quality and excellence.

We are the only Duffy Electric Boat dealer and factory recognized rental facility in all of Chicagoland. Our boats are all new models that are outfitted with Duffy’s latest innovations. Chicago Electric boats are driven by the patented Power Rudder™ which provides excellent tracking and unmatched maneuverability allowing the operator to even turn within its own length! The thoughtful design and engineering produces maximum interior room and comfort. In addition, our boats are inspected by the USCG Auxiliary.

Chicago Electric Boat Company was founded by two avid mariners, Ron Silvia and Greg Krueger, who were looking to make a social and environmental impact on Chicago's waterways. Their goal is to encourage boating in a recreational and green way so customers can enjoy what we believe is the city's backyard!

Whether you call Chicago home, or you are visiting for a short while, a one or up to four hour cruise on the Chicago River is a great way to enjoy the city from a total different perspective. We believe that everyone should be able to maneuver through the beautiful waterway that played such an integral role in the city we know and love today!

Location, Directions and Parking

We are conveniently located under Marina City (300 N. State Street)—right in the heart of the Loop! We have preferred parking with the House of Blues (up to 3 hours for $15). This price is subject to change at the discretion of the parking provider (CEBC assumes no liability).

We are located right under the House of Blues. Go to the vestibule where you pay for the House of Blues valet parking and take that elevator down to the lowest level--"marina" level. Our offices are located on the left.Reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to six months in advance. Last minute and walk-up customers are always welcome but are subject to availability.

Catering

Imagine yourself cruising down the Chicago River, nibbling on some iconic Chicago food...now that is a true Chicago Electric Boat experience. While we welcome you to bring your own food upon board, we also offer catering! Please look through the options before you make your reservation and let us know what you would like. Your order will be on the boat waiting for you so you can enjoy it on your cruise! Please call 312.644.6411 to place your order.

We pride ourselves on offering the best amenities and service for our customers. We have teamed up with four well-known Chicago restaurants to give you a plethora of options to choose from: Uno's Pizzeria, Artisan Cellar, Jason's Deli and Smith & Wollensky! No substitutions please and there is a 15% service charge. Catering Orders must to be placed 2 days in advance. Please note, there is a $5 delivery charge for Pizzeria Uno; Jason’s Deli and Artisan Cellar have a $12 administrative/delivery fee and Smith and Wollensky has a 5% delivery/administrative fee.

Amenities

We pride ourselves on offering the best amenities for our customers! We here at Chicago Electric Boat Company want to be sure that we offer as much as possible to make your experience unforgettable! The amenities we offer help create a personalized cruise unlike any other.

We offer…captains. If for any reason you are not comfortable with driving the boat or plan on drinking we do offer captains. Captains are available for $60 per hour. If you have a captain, you can have no more than 6 people on board due to USCG law.

We offer…tour guides. Our tour guides are awesomely knowledgeable and fun! To hire a tour guide is $55 per hour. The tour guides however will not serve as captains.

Once you have found your desired day and time, click it and put in your information to reserve. You will have a confirmation emailed to your within 24 hours. We do not accept debit cards for the authorization on the boat. We accept debit cards for point of sale only.

CASH, CHECK, AND  MONEY ORDERS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AS A FORM OF PAYMENT.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people fit on each Duffy Boat?

We have two sized boats. Our 18 Snug Harbor can fit up to 10 people (8 comfortably) and our 22 Bay Island can fit up to 12 people.

Is the boat easy to drive and how old do you have to be?

The boat is as easy as driving a golf cart and cruises at 4-5 mph. Top speed is approximately 7.5 mph. You must be 21 years old to drive a Duffy Boat and have valid drivers license. We provide a detailed map of the Chicago River and teach you how to operate the boat before departing. Even though the Duffy Boat’s are extremely easy to drive, we do offer USCG licensed captains for an additional $60 an hour.

What other amenities do you offer?

In addition to catering and USCG licensed captains we offer personal tour guides for $55 per hour (2 hour minimum). Our fun and energetic tour guides are experienced experts on everything that is Chicago. Each tour is customized for the customer. Chicago Electric Boat Company also has an ice machine on site. Seven-pound bags of ice are available for purchase for $3.00. We also have complimentary coolers for you to use on your cruise. If you need anything else, please feel free to ask!

Are life jackets provided?

Yes. All children under 13, according to Illinois law, MUST wear a life jacket. We have life jackets for infants as well. All adult life jackets are stowed in an easily accessible storage compartment.

Where do we park?

We recommend to carpool or take public transportation as much as possible because we are a green business! We have preferred valet parking rates for Chicago Electric Boat Company customers ($18.00 for up to 5 hours—subject to change). Valet parking is available upstairs in front of House of Blues (300 N State Street – Chicago, IL 60654). We will provide you with a validation certificate. 

Is there music on the Duffy Boat?

Duffy Boats have an iPod input, CD player and radio on board. You are welcome to bring your iPod, iPhone and CD's - you will be provided with an auxiliary cord. Cruising on a Duffy Boat isn't complete without your favorite 

What time should I show up to my reservation?

We recommend arriving 20 minutes before your reservation time to find parking, get checked in, and learn how to operate the Duffy Boat. Prior to departure a Chicago Electric Boat Company representative will orient you on how to operate the boat safely including a basic understanding of rules of the road.

Are there any extra fees for expenses besides the hourly rate?

Yes, there is a 9% Chicago Amusement Tax. We also take a $500 security deposit, which is purely an authorization on your credit card for any damage that is a result of poor operation and care during your rental. Enjoy the boats, but please care for them as if they were your own! A liability waiver must be signed in order to rent an electric boat.

Can the boats only cruise the Chicago River?

Yes. However, if you choose to hire a USCG licensed captain to operate the boat and the lake conditions are safe enough you may also have the opportunity to cruise around Navy pier and through Monroe Harbor.

What is the cancellation policy?

We have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, otherwise you will be charged in full for your rental. Should we deem the weather to be unsafe for navigating the Chicago River prior to departure, a full refund will be given.

Are there refunds on catering?

If you cancel your catering order within 24 hours of your rental there will be no charge to you.

Are pets allowed on the boat?

Unfortunately, under no circumstances are any kinds of pets allowed on the boat. This rule is strictly enforced. Thank you for your understanding!
