USS PENNSYLVANIA is the tenth ship in the OHIO class and the first submarine in the Navy to bear the name of the state.

History USS Pennsylvania SSBN 735 :
April 23, 1988 USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735), the second Trident II submarine, was launched during a ceremony at Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics, Groton, CT. Mrs. Marilyn K. Garrett, wife of the Honorable H. Lawrence Garrett III, Under Secretary of the Navy, was the ship’s sponsor.
August 22, 1989 The Pennsylvania was delivered to the U.S. Navy.
September 9, USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) was commissioned during a ceremony at New London, Conn.
September 29, USS Pennsylvania ran aground as it entered the channel during its first visit to Port Canaveral, Florida. Tugboats freed the submarine in about two hours. A Navy investigation determined that Pennsylvania was properly positioned in the channel, but the channel had been silted by the recent passing of Hurricane Hugo.
March 11, 1990 The Pennsylvania Gold Crew successfully launched a Trident II (D5) missile during a Demonstration and Shakedown Operation off Cape Canaveral, Fla.
September 26, USS Pennsylvania (Blue) successfully launched a Trident II missile during a Demonstration and Shakedown Operation.
October 13, SSBN 735 completed its strategic loadout at Strategic Weapons Facility, Atlantic, Kings Bay, Ga. First patrol began Oct. 26, 1990.
July 29, 1991 The Blue Crew successfully launched four missiles during a Trident II CINC Evaluation Test on the Eastern Test Range (ETR) off Cape Canaveral.
November 11, USS Pennsylvania Blue Crew successfully launched four missiles during a Trident II CINC Evaluation Test from the ETR off Cape Canaveral.
July 7, 1993 SSBN 735 (Gold) successfully launched two D5 missiles during a Follow-on CINC Evaluation Test.
July 19, 1996 The Pennsylvania successfully launched two Trident II missiles during a Follow-on CINC Evaluation Test.
October 17, 2002 USS Pennsylvania (Gold) arrived at it new homeport of Bangor, Washington, after about 80 days transit from Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga. SSBN 735 is the first Trident submarine to change homeports to Bangor in more than 15 years and the first of two boats to come to Bangor from the East Coast with D-5 capabilities.
July 20, 2005 USS Pennsylvania (Blue), commanded by Cmdr. Michael J. Dobbs, returned to Naval Base Kitsap after completing its 50th Patrol at sea.
July 25, SSBN 735 was recognized as the U.S. Navy’s best Trident submarine when it was presented the 2004 U.S. Strategic Command Omaha Trophy. The annual award is given to three operational units, recognizing their outstanding contributions to USSTRATCOM’s diverse mission of strategic deterrence. The three competitive categories are Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Command, a Submarine Ballistic Missile Command, and the original Strategic Aircraft Command.
September 26, 2008 The blue crew of USS Pennsylvania, commanded by Cmdr. Bradford S. Neff, recently returned from the ship's 60th Strategic Deterrent Patrol. This historic patrol marked a significant milestone as it was the 500th successful patrol of the Ohio-class submarine Trident II D5 Strategic Weapons System (SWS).
December 3, 2009 USS Pennsylvania entered the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a three-year Engineered Refueling Overhaul.
September 10, 2010 Cmdr. Gustavo Gutierrez relieved Cmdr. Theodore H. Schroeder as CO of the Pennsylvania (Green) during a change-of-command ceremony held at Deterrent Park on Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.
August 5, 2011 SSBN 735 departed dry-dock and will remain pierside at PSNS&IMF.
Sept. 19, 2012 USS Pennsylvania returned to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor after a six-day sea trials, completing the thirty-three and a half month EROH.
November 17, Cmdr. Gell Tiger L. Pittman, III assumed command of the USS Pennsylvania Gold Crew while Cmdr. Gustavo Gutierrez assumed command of the Blue Crew during a crew split and an assumption of command ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor's Delta Pier.
March 28, 2014 Cmdr. John E. Cage relieved Cmdr. Gustavo Gutierrez as CO of the Pennsylvania (Blue) during a change-of-command ceremony at Deterrent Park.
